Pooley’s chase for City’s top job confirmed

Deputy Lord Mayor Tony Pooley has been endorsed as the Labor candidate for Sydney’s Lord Mayoralty in the upcoming local government election.
Councillor Pooley received support from fellow Labor members at last weekend’s State Conference, ahead of former president of the NSW Upper House, Meredith Burgmann.
“I look forward to putting my ideas forward for improving the delivery of vital services to residents and ratepayers,” he said.
In a speech to conference delegates, Cr Pooley pushed the need for a positive alternative to the current administration, citing a number of budget blow-outs on recent projects.
“We need a city and a Lord Mayor that spends less on grand vision statements and consultants, and more on people and social services.”
The City of Sydney’s local government election will be held on September 13.
