WITH MICK ROBERTS

Police are to increase the number of Tasers by extending their use to general duties police working as supervisors and duty officers.

Over 200 new Tasers will be ordered for a strategic phased rollout, with 2,000 officers to be trained in their safe use. Each Taser is to be equipped with a camera to provide an accurate video recording when it is deployed, in much the same way Highway Patrol cars are fitted with in-car video units.
50 Tasers are currently used by NSW Police within specialist commands including the Tactical Operations Unit and the Public Order and Riot Squad, and have been used on almost 50 occasions.

Police are appealing for public assistance following reports of a woman located unconscious at last Saturday night.
About 11pm, it’s believed a 48-year-old woman parked her silver Hyundai Excel on Derwent Street, before she was later discovered unconscious, with significant grazing to her legs and right arm. She was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for treatment.
The woman has told police she recalls two well-dressed men having pulled-up next to her in a black vehicle.
It was reported to police that she may have had several items of jewellery stolen. Officers conducted a search of the vehicle, which has since been seized for forensic investigation.
Detectives are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who may have noticed anything suspicious around Derwent Street at the time, to contact Leichhardt Police on 9552 8099 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Police are appealing for information in relation to an armed robbery at a Central Sydney post office on Wednesday May 14.
At about 3pm a man entered the post office on the corner of Castlereagh and Park Streets and lined up with the rest of the customers.
On reaching the front of the queue, the man allegedly jumped the counter, carrying a metal kitchen knife.
The man allegedly pushed the attendant and forced the till open, took a sum of money and jumped back over to the customer side of the counter. He reached back over the counter to force upon a second till and grabbed a sum of money.
It is believed the man ran out of the post office, dropping some money and the knife along the way, and headed north on Castlereagh Street toward Market Street. He was chased by two post office staff members who recovered the knife.
The man is described as being of Pacific Islander appearance, of solid build, about 183cm tall and aged in his 20s. He was wearing white rugby shorts with a black stripe down each leg and a dark blue hooded jumper with ’60’ on the back and yellow and white writing on the front.
Anyone with information should call City Central Police on 9265 6499 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
