TWO men have been arrested following an armed robbery and police pursuit through Redfern and Newtown early last Sunday morning.
Police responded to reports of an armed robbery at a service station in Unwins Bridge Road, St Peters, at approximately 1:30am.
It’s alleged two men used a firearm to hold-up the service station, escaping with an amount of cash and cigarettes in a stolen silver Peugeot sedan.
The stolen vehicle was sighted by police in Redfern who initiated a pursuit.
They pursued the vehicle through the streets of Redfern and into the Newtown area where the occupants abandoned the vehicle in George Street and ran off.
During a foot chase, police are believed to have fired two rounds after a firearm was allegedly pointed at them.
The two men from the stolen vehicle were arrested shortly after in a park in George Street.
No one was injured as a result of the incident, however, a critical incident team has been formed to investigate all circumstances surrounding the arrest.

FIVE teenagers have been arrested and charged with a string of offences following a policing operation in central Sydney on Wednesday July 9.
Two of the youths were taken into custody following an alleged unprovoked assault on a plain clothes police officer who was taking part in a drug dog operation at Darling Harbour.
The boys, aged 16 and 17, were taken to City Central Police Station and subsequently charged with assaulting police before being released on conditional bail.
Two other teenagers were also arrested after allegedly being caught with drugs during the operation, which targeted an under-age dance party at Cockle Bay, as well as the Hay and George Street areas in Sydney’s CBD.
A 15-year-old boy was charged with possessing a prohibited drug, while a 17-year-old boy was charged with deemed supply of a prohibited drug.
All four youths will appear in Bidura Children’s Court on July 29.

MEANWHILE, police are conducting inquiries after a 17-year-old girl was taken to St Vincents Hospital suffering a suspected overdose of party and date-rape drug, Gamma hydroxybutyrate (GHB) at the same dance party.
Two girls, aged 14 and 15, were taken by ambulance to Sydney Children’s Hospital at Randwick after they came to police attention for being highly intoxicated, while a 15-year-old boy was taken home by police because he was affected by alcohol.
All had been identified by police prior to entering the Cockle Bay party.
In a separate incident, a 17-year-old boy was arrested and charged with five offences, including assault, resisting arrest, offensive behaviour and custody of a knife. He will appear in court at a later date.
