Taxi driver charged over indecent assault

Police have charged a taxi driver after he allegedly assaulted a female passenger in Stanmore on Sunday afternoon.

The 44-year-old woman alleges she took a taxi from Stanmore to a shop in Enmore and back. The woman alleges as the taxi dropped her home the driver leant over and indecently assaulted her.

The driver has been charged with indecent assault and will appear in Newtown Local Court.

Kings Cross nightclub flares up

A teenager will appear in court after he allegedly discharged a flare into a Kings Cross nightclub on Sunday night.

The 19-year-old man was standing outside a nightclub in Bayswater Road when he allegedly produced a distress flare and discharged it in the direction of the hotel’s front doors.

Nobody was injured by the flare. The teenager attempted to run from the scene but was arrested by officers and charged with unauthorised use of distress signals, and negligent handling of explosives.

He will appear in Downing Centre Local Court.

Man arrested following sexual assault

A man has been arrested after an alleged sexual assault at Newtown train station last Thursday.

An 18-year-old woman was laying on a bench on the platform when she was allegedly undressed and sexually assaulted.

A commuter contacted police who arrived a short time later and arrested a 28-year-old man who was taken to Newtown Police Station. The woman was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for a medical examination.

Police are now appealing for anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

Man arrested following Stanmore shooting

Detectives arrested a man in a dawn raid following investigations into the murder of another man in Sydney’s inner west.

The body of Parramatta man Alfred Lee Hood, 33, was found in Albermarle Street, Newtown on Friday November 12.

It’s believed Mr Hood’s body was dumped there after he was shot in the vicinity of Albany Street, Stanmore, about 25 minutes earlier.

Homicide Squad detectives raided a home in Panania on Friday and arrested a 23-year-old man who was later charged with murder.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the incident and are still looking for a man they believe might be able to assist with their inquiries into Mr Hood’s death.

Redfern train robbery

Police inquiries are continuing after a man was robbed on a train in Redfern on Saturday.

A 22-year-old man was travelling on a train from Strathfield to the City when he was approached by a man and a woman as the train neared Redfern Railway Station.

The two demanded money before punching and choking him. They then stole his bag before they exited the train at Redfern and were last seen running east along Lawson Street.

The man was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for treatment to swelling and bruising to his eye and grazing to his neck and upper body.
