Police have a Field Day

Police from the Redfern Region Enforcement Squad arrested and charged a security guard with drug supply at the “Field Day” music festival in The Domain on Saturday.

Police saw a 51-year-old man, who was working as security guard, allegedly selling drugs to another man.

A search of the two men revealed $390 in cash from the guard, while six ecstasy tablets were allegedly found on the 25-year-old man.

Police also allege a further 50 pills and cannabis were located when the guard’s car was searched.

The guard was taken to North Sydney Police Station where he was charged with two counts of supply a prohibited drug, dealing with property suspected of being the proceeds of crime, and drug possession.

The man, from Lidcombe, was granted conditional bail and is due to appear in North Sydney Local Court on 25 January.

The younger man was issued with a court attendance notice for drug possession. He is due to appear in Downing Centre Local Court on 24 January.

A total of 111 people were arrested during the festival and 33 people were ejected. Most of the charges were for drug possession.

A 29-year-old man was also charged with drug supply and possession after allegedly being found with 30 ecstasy pills; a 21-year-old man was also charged with drug supply after allegedly being found with 25 pills.

Police used four drug dogs and plain clothes police during the operation.

Police were advised that seven people had been taken to hospital for suspected drug overdoses.

Operation commander, Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Bell, said despite those arrested for the drug offence, overall police were pleased with the crowd’s behaviour.

“Even though there were more than 21,500 people at the event only three assaults were reported to police,” he said.

Christmas day assault

Two men were charged Christmas day following an alleged assault in the CBD that left a man in hospital.

The incident occurred about 1.50am at the intersection of Sussex and Liverpool Streets.

Police arrived at the scene and located a 26-year-old man suffering a serious head injury. He was taken to St Vincents Hospital where he’s in a stable condition.

Two men were arrested at the scene and taken to City Central Police Station for questioning. A number of witnesses have also been identified and interviewed by investigators.

A 21-year-old man has been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent, and a 19-year-old male has been charged with affray.

Security guard to appear in court following serious assault

A 24-year-old security officer will appear in Downing Centre Local Court on Tuesday following a serious assault of a man at a nightclub in Surry Hills last month.

It is alleged the man punched a 35-year-old man after he was ejected from an Oxford Street nightclub by security staff on December 22 causing him to hit his head on the pavement.

As a result the man suffered a fractured skull and bleeding on the brain. He was taken to St Vincents Hospital and placed on life support.

The security guard was arrested at the scene and taken to Surry Hills Police Station where he was charged with recklessly cause grievous bodily harm.
