POETRY FILM FESTIVAL

POETRY FILM FESTIVAL

Like a secret; / I desperately want to tell you. / Whisper it in your ear, / pass you a note, / write it on your arm as you sleep.

If asked to interpret this swatch of poetry by QLD poet Belinda Hilton, what would you see? No doubt, no two person’s vision would be the same. That is the rationale behind the Poetry Film Festival, based in Melbourne and now going into its second year. Filmmakers are asked to create short flick (4-7 minutes) framed by the poem, in whatever way they see fit, and judging from the finalist entries, it’s set to be a smorgasbord of rich variety. Pranks gone wrong, bungled con jobs, childhood crushes, a dysfunctional family called Mills and King Neptune’s Head all get a look in – you can witness the results and find out who scoops the major prizes at the Palace Verona on Oct 30th. Think of it as poetry in motion. (AB)

Oct 30, 7pm, Palace Verona, 17 Oxford St, Paddington, $15-17, poetryinfilmfestival.com.au
