Podcaster and lifecoach Jay Shetty live on stage
By ERIN WALKER
His first two Sydney shows sold out and now a special third matinee show has been added; Jay Shetty is a worldwide phenomena.
Jay Shetty was an 18 year old living in London attending a business school with the hopes of becoming a wealthy and successful entrepreneur when his purpose and life goals were turned around. Shetty attended a live lecture held by Gauranga Das, a monk who travels the world to share his knowledge and experiences on the services of humanity.
Das was the influence that drove Shetty to change his trajectory. Shetty spent three summers living with the monks of an Indian ashram before deciding to fully enter the monkhood to dedicate his life to service, mindfulness, and peace.
After three additional years he decided to leave the monkhood and take his experience and knowledge, drawn from ancient wisdoms and modern science, and be of service in a different way. He began speaking, writing and sharing in the hope of informing the masses on how to bring peace and purpose to their everyday lives.
Now a self-proclaimed ‘purpose coach’, Shetty has written two books, hosts the number one health and wellness podcast, On Purpose, and is the Chief purpose officer of the mediation app Calm.
Shetty’s first book, Think Like a Monk; Train Your Mind for Peace and Purpose Everyday, covers the principles of mindfulness and meditation. In a podcast interview with Gauranga Das, Shetty said: “You don’t have to live like a monk to think like a monk”, explaining his past experience as a monk now guides his application to everyday life even outside of the monkhood. He hopes that his book can share some wisdom on the topic.
In January this year Shetty released his latest book, 8 Rules of Love: How to Find it, Keep it and Let It Go, which offers a guide to every stage of love. It emphasises the individual efforts and commitments necessary to maintain a healthy relationship with others and oneself.
The success of Shetty’s latest book has kickstarted a new world tour. In his shows Shetty takes audiences on a 90 minute journey of finding, keeping, and even letting go of love, including live meditations, experiments, and demonstrations.
