PENNY IKINGER – PENELOPE

PENNY IKINGER – PENELOPE

If you like your rock well-aged, mature and dark, Penny’s your woman. The Cougar of rock who has been slogging it out on the Australian music scene for over thirty years- this album being her first offering in seven years. Time has been kind to her and she’s proving that a heavy voice becomes even more haunting with age. Sycamore Tree is so raw, like peeling back a bandage and discovering a cavernous wound, the kind of natural horror that leaves nothing to the imagination. Definitely a superior track guaranteed to make the hairs on your neck stand on end. The most catchy and poppy track on the album is Into the Slipstream, it has some fast riffs, dense harmonies and would be the perfect opener to a gig. It reels you in and sets up a nice, energetic pace. Unlike final track City of Sin which isn’t going to appeal to everyone because it sounds like a march to a war siren. Perfect track for the midnight hours if you’re wanting to clear out a party, also perfect for gutting a fish in your garage.
