Peace festival in Leichhardt

Leichhardt Town Hall played host to the Alternative ANZAC Peace Festival and Timor benefit concert on Tuesday, April 26.

The Peace Festival included a free film festival and forum, which took place on the 25th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster.

Topics under discussion at the forum included ‘Warfare and the environment in the face of climate change’, and ‘The Politics of ‘war’ memorials! Where are the ‘peace’ memorials’.

Following the film festival and forum, a Timor benefit concert was held, featuring music from jazz-inspired acoustic quartet RAPT, along with Pat Drummond, Sonia Bennett, Snez and Dennis Aubrey.

The concert also saw environmental activist Jack Mundey take to the stage along with the new state member for Balmain, Jamie Parker.

The concert was held as a fundraiser for Leichhardt Council’s East Timor project ‘Friends of Maliana’.
