Party with purpose in Bondi

When 24-year-old Dominic Greenwood was looking for a way to unite youths and social issues, he came up with Major Raiser – a party with a purpose.

“I wanted to help people and I just figured out I need to connect with young people like myself who don’t have time to dedicate to charities.

So I developed this strategy and Major Raiser was born,” he said.

Major Raiser provides a fun night out for young adults via a lineup of Australia’s best up-and coming bands for a small fee. All profits from the event are then passed onto a designated charity.

“Us young people are socially conscious but we may not have the time to or may not feel like heading to work at a charity.

Major Raiser enables young people to have an amazing night and still do something positive for society.”

The event’s fourth edition will be held at the Beach Road Hotel on May 5.

All proceeds will go to the Music Outback Foundation, an organisation which provides musical opportunities to Indigenous children.

“The first ever party I threw was for them,” Mr Greenwood said.

“That was about a year ago so it’s come full circle. “They mainly focus on young people and music, where they are giving musical opportunities for young people in remote areas who really otherwise wouldn’t have those opportunities,” he said.

The line-up includes Mitzi, Glass Towers, Toucan, Colour Coding, Conics and Lancelot. Makeup label Napoleon Perdis will be providing free face painting on the night.

Nick Vodicka lead singer of dance punk group The Conics is excited to be part of the event.

“We had seen Major Raiser events before and we were keen to join it because the line ups were so good,” he said.

The Conics waived their fee for the night, donating their costs to Music Outback Foundation. “Its always nice to be part of something which is going to some people that need a bit of support.

You don’t often get that opportunity,” he said.

Shea Duncan from indie duo Toucan praised Mr Greenwood’s fundraising.

“I think it’s a fantastic niche that they’ve found putting on live events and then having the proceeds go to a cause.

I think it’s a really good healthy relationship,” he said.

“It’s going to be a fantastic night.” Doors open on May 5 at the Beach Road Hotel at 8pm.
