OZOMATLI – OZOKIDZ

OZOMATLI – OZOKIDZ

A Latin fusion group from Los Angeles, Ozomatli like to mash styles like hip hop, salsa, reggae  and funk. Normally, the group sings about issues such as immigration protest and gang violence but with Ozokidz  they have turned to hard-hitting kids’ issues, like germs, spelling, exercise, and how trees grow. Whilst each song is educational in some way, the more successful are those which favour  funk, latin or reggaeton over hip hop (such as Spelling and the slinking salsa of Ballon-Fest) as children will probably respond better to a melody. For a group that doesn’t normally do children’s music, this is fantastic, not only for kids but for parents as well – if it weren’t for the lyrics you’d never know!  Move over, Yo Gabba Gabba.
