OSCAR & THE LADY IN PINK

OSCAR & THE LADY IN PINK

Based on the novel by Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt, Oscar and the Lady in Pink is a wonderful production that tackles life’s difficult questions. The one-woman play is structured around a series of letters written to God by 10-year-old Oscar who is in hospital with Leukaemia. Oscar is encouraged to write these letters on advice of the ‘Lady in Pink’, one of the hospital volunteers who come to visit the children in the hospital. The letters detail their profound relationship as Oscar deals with his mortality, love and also his life in the hospital. The show however avoids being depressing or didactic, it is also filled with lightness and humour. Gertraud Ingeborg puts on a wonderful performance as she takes us into Oscar’s world in the hospital ward. Ultimately the show is about life death and everything in between. I can hardly think of more important topics.
