Open doors invite thieves, Police warn

Surry Hills police are urging residents to continue securing their homes at night during the warmer months.

Senior Constable Paul Falzon, Crime Prevention Officer said: ‘Often people leave their main doors open, with only their flyscreen doors closed at night. This makes it easier for opportunists and professional thieves to enter and steal handbags, wallets and other easily accessible items. There has been a significant increase in reports of this type of crime.’

Police encourage residents to make sure their home is secure during the night, and report any crime or suspicious activity.

Anyone who is the victim of a stealing or notices suspicious activity should immediately contact their local Police, or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

TIP: Write the phone number of your local police station prominently near your phone.
