Heart Strings Theatre Co brings their heartfelt women-led musical The Hello Girls to the Hayes Theatre, this January and February.
Returning to the Potts Point theatre following their sold-out hit Urinetown the Musical, this new production from the Canberra-based company gives an insight to the trail-blazing women in the US army.
Set in 1918, with the world at war, nationalism on the rise and the fight for gender equality going strong, the US army finally enlist their first roles in the army for women. Recruiting telephone operators, this feisty group take the trip over to France to assist in the war efforts.
Follow Grace Banker as she leads her team of fearless soldiers changes the course of history, chipping away at sexism and misogyny, leading the way for women in the armed services.
Artistic Director of Heart Strings Theatre Co Ylaria Rogers said, “When I listened to
The Hello Girls soundtrack, I knew it was our next show.”
“I could feel my heartbeat and my breath drop in the first minute of the opening number. I read the synopsis and thought, ‘a piece about war, really?,’ but it isn’t a piece about war! It’s a piece about women’s history, which was completely erased by men,” Rogers continued.
“Strong, funny and relevant, this piece feels like a call to arms to anyone who has ever
felt left behind, forgotten, and unacknowledged for the part they play in this world. It
shows that if we fight hard enough, we can change the course of history.”
This contemporary musical is full of pop and folk tunes, as well as an inspiring message for all women by recognising an incredible part of history.
The Heart Strings Theatre Co first premiered at The Playhouse, Canberra Theatre Centre, with rave reviews. With a cast that is brimming with talent and experience, The Hello Girls will deliver an entertaining production celebrating history and the power of women.
