North Sydney Olympic Pool Returns With Free Opening Weekend
North Sydney Olympic Pool will officially reopen to the public on Friday 7 August, with free access available from the opening afternoon through to Sunday 9 August as the iconic harbourside venue returns after more than five years closed for redevelopment.
The pool, which first opened in 1936, is reopening during its 90th anniversary year. The venue holds the record for the most world records set at any swimming pool and has hosted generations of swimmers since it first opened.
Visitors during the opening weekend will have access to the venue’s new and upgraded facilities, including the 50-metre outdoor pool, 25-metre indoor lap pool, indoor programme pool, children’s pool, splash pad, and spa, sauna and steam room.
The reopening follows a major redevelopment of the facility, which closed in February 2021 for extensive upgrade works. The project has delivered updated aquatic facilities, improved accessibility, new amenities and expanded health and fitness spaces.
North Sydney Council said the opening weekend would provide the community with an opportunity to experience the renewed facility before regular operations begin.
The gym and group fitness studios will be open for self-guided tours during the opening weekend, with full gym access and group fitness classes commencing from Monday 10 August. Family-friendly activities and entertainment will also be held throughout the weekend.
North Sydney Mayor Zoë Baker previously marked the project milestone ahead of the reopening, saying, “The keys are with council staff.”
The refurbished venue retains its connection to the original pool while introducing modern facilities designed for current community use. Its location beside Sydney Harbour Bridge and Luna Park remains a defining feature of the site.
Those interested in receiving opening weekend updates, purchasing memberships or enrolling in Learn to Swim programs can register through northsydneyolympicpool.com.au.
The reopening restores public access to one of Sydney’s longest-running aquatic facilities and marks a new chapter for the historic North Sydney venue.
