North Bondi Surf Life Saving Club Ocean Swim

North Bondi Surf Life Saving Club Ocean Swim

The 17th annual North Bondi Roughwater Swim will be held on Sunday 11 January at 9.15am to raise funds for one of Australia’s oldest lifesaving clubs.

Ideally, beautiful weather and a calm 3-foot swell will see more than 650 swimmers taking part in two exciting swims around the bay of Bondi.

Swimmers ranging from 10 to 70 years of age and over will charge into the ocean to complete the 1km and 2km swims in a quest for some great prizes and lucky draws.

Well-known celebrities including Olympians Murray Rose, John Konrads and Graeme Brewer, as well as North Bondi’s champion ironmen and ironwomen, will be competing on the day.

More than 50 voluntary lifesavers will be patrolling the event, both on the beach and in the water, using inflatable rescue boats, skis and rescue boards to ensure the absolute safety of all swimmers.

Sponsored by Rival, Digital Lifeware, Havaianas and Seiko, this fundraising event raises money for one of Australia’s most famous founding surf lifesaving clubs which celebrated its centenary in 2007.

A new ‘wetsuit’ division has been introduced to allow wetsuit entrants to compete in a team of four in the 2km division.

And the “Back of the pack” division is back to allow those swimmers who require flippers, snorkels or flotation/wetsuit clothing to complete the course. This group will start 10 minutes behind the last wave.

Late entries are welcome on the beach on Sunday from 7am ‘ 8am.
