NEWTOWN FLICKS SHORT FILM FESTIVAL

NEWTOWN FLICKS SHORT FILM FESTIVAL

If you reckon you and your mate are the next David and Margaret – or you just want to support the local film industry and enjoy some bite-sized films – pencil the Newtown Flicks Short Film Festival into your diary. Held over three days at Erskineville’s PACT Theatre, the annual non-profit event will bring together work by some of Sydney’s most exciting up-and-coming short filmmakers. Now in its fifth year, the aim of the festival is to showcase local filmmaking talent and nurture Sydney’s budding underground short film industry. Making up the judging panel in 2010 is award-winning actress Pia Miranda, acclaimed director Bruce Beresford (Mao’s Last Dancer, Driving Miss Daisy), director Hannah Hillard, SMH film writer Garry Maddox and producer/director Luke Eve. Winners of the four categories – Best Student, Best Independent, Directors Choice and JVC – will be announced on opening night, and every entry will be screened over the course of the festival.
