White Cane Day

A crowd of more than 50 clients, staff, and supporters of Guide Dogs gathered on Thursday October 15 to take part in the first ever Independence Walk.

Dressed in blue, the participants walked quickly through the streets of Sydney for an hour using canes and technological aids like Miniguides and mobile phones with talking GPS; to demonstrate their mobility and independence.

The walk, held on International White Cane Day, aimed to convey to the community that people with impaired vision can be independent and confident travellers.
