DECK CHAIRS RETURN FOR SUMMER

The City of Sydney Council has begun rolling out deck chairs and umbrellas in public spaces, for the enjoyment and relaxation of residents through the warmer months. The deck chairs – which were popular with Sydney residents last summer – will be located in Sydney Square, Wynyard Park and Belmore Park each weekday, and in Paddington Reservoir Gardens seven days per week, until April 2013. Free books, drawn from excess City library stock, will also be available. “For the next six months, we’ll have over 200 pieces of furniture and more than 500 library books at these sites so people can put their feet up, read and relax,” said Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore.

NEW BOOK MEANS CASH FOR CATS

A new book was has been released to raise funds for the Cat Protection Society of NSW. Feline Friends – Tales from the Heart was officially launched at Hermann’s Bar, University of Sydney last Tuesday, and is now available from the Cat Protection Society shop on Enmore Road, Newtown – and from a wide variety of bookstores from November. Described as “a heart-warming tribute to our feline friends”, the book is packed with reallife stories and captivating photographs of cats and kittens. All royalties will go to the Cat Protection Society, to help the organisation continue its work securing the welfare of cats.

MORE TRAIN SERVICES FOR SYDNEY

An extra 44 train services will commence in Sydney next week, largely focused on better links between the CBD and suburban/regional areas. NSW Minister for Transport Gladys Berejiklian announced 20 news services per week on the Eastern Suburbs/Illawarra line, while an extra ten services would connect the CBD with the Western Suburbs. A new daily return service would also link the CBD with the regional city of Bathurst. The timetable changes come into effect on Monday, October 21.
