GLEBE FORESHORE WALK WORK

For the first time in almost two centuries, the entirety of the Glebe Foreshore will soon be accessible to the public. The City of Sydney Council has announced it will start work on the “missing link” of the Glebe Foreshore Walk, constructing a path for walkers and bike riders from Annandale to Bridge Road. “It’s been nine years since work started on the Glebe Foreshore Walk and this final stage is an exciting finalé, allowing us to reclaim public access along one of the world’s most beautiful harbours,” said Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore. ELECTRIC CARS GET CHARGING STATIONS

The City of Sydney Council has installed seven charging stations for electric cars to encourage more Sydneysiders to take up zero emission vehicles. The charging stations – three in the Goulburn Street Parking Station in the CBD, and four in the Kings Cross Parking Station – allow drivers to recharge their batteries with 100 per cent renewable electricity derived from solar-generated power. “Electric cars produce no emissions, helping to reduce air pollution and the production of greenhouse gases,” said Chris Binns, City Manager of Strategy and Assets, while promoting the initiative.

CASTRO TO SPEAK ON SEX

Mariela Castro – daughter of Cuban President Raul Castro and niece of former Cuban Prime Minister and President, Fidel Castro – will deliver a talk in Sydney this Tuesday, October 16. Ms Castro, Director of Cuba’s National Centre for Sex Education (CENESEX), will speak on sex, gender and queer issues at the Eastern Avenue Auditorium, Sydney University from 6.15pm. Queer activist Rachel Evans said it was an opportunity to hear about Cuba’s advances in the sex and gender milieu. “Cuba has free trans operations, ads about sexual diversity on state TV, queer rights rallies, films … and Parliament discussing civil unions and marriage equality.”
