Lottery win for Tempe local

A Tempe woman has won the NSW Lotteries Powerball ‘Around the World’ promotion.

For three lucky winners, the prize included a $20, 000 travel voucher and $5, 000 spending money.

The winner, Ms H Boddy plans to use the prize to go on a cruise with her family.

Ms Boddy said: “I haven’t had a holiday for 40 years and have never been overseas.”

Ambassador for the people

An Inner-west local has been named a ‘People of Australia Ambassador’ for 2012.

Executive Director of the Ethnic Childcare Family and Community Services Co-operative, Vivi Germanos-Koutsounadis was recognised for her work in the community, helping to build bridges of understanding and encourage participation in small communities.

As a new ambassador, Ms Germanos-Koutsounadis will be able to provide advice to the Government and the Australian Multicultural Council.

Sydney Home Invasions

A string of home invasions on January 16 in Balmain and Lilyfield has left several residents injured.

The first attack left a man unconscious in the stairwell of his Balmain unit. He was taken to hospital after suffering head injuries.

Shortly after there was another attack on a Balmain house where intruders smashed a number of windows. Luckily no one was hurt and there was no confrontation with the home-owners.

Police were called to a Lilyfield home after three men assaulted a male with a pitchfolk, leaving him with head injuries. He was taken to St Vincent’s hospital and he is in stable condition.
