Students reimagine the Famous Spiegeltent
Sydney University architecture students will reinvent an iconic 90-year-old Belgian venue which hosted some of the world’s greatest cabaret artists and musicians, at the Youtopia exhibition.
The team created the finished project to be dismountable and transferrable resembling the original for the Youtopia Exhibition.
The reinvented Spiegeltent includes a 300-seat modular environment made from plywood, galvanised steel sheets and plastic.
Team leader, Dr Dagmar Reinhardt said: “The Youtopia exhibition will feature works that represent Australia’s most promising young architectural minds.”

Albion Ave tree falls

A fallen native African tree on Albion Ave has prompted discussions with the Council about a replanting programme for the street.
Recent roadworks to relocate the COFA sewer is said to have caused the Harpephyllum caffrums to fall, rather than bad weather.
No property was damaged and no-one was hurt but locals suspect many of the trees on the street are dead or ailing.
First Case of Meningococcal
Doctors are urging people with early symptoms of Meningococcal to seek immediate treatment, after a 24-year-old Marrickville woman was diagnosed with the first case of the disease recorded in the Sydney Local District this year.
The meningitis patient is being treated in hospital an in recovery.
Meningococcal disease is an infection that causes meningitis-an inflammation of the lining of the brain and spinal cord. In NSW, between 100 and 130 cases are recorded each year, with up to 10 per cent of these fatal.
Early symptoms can include, but are not limited to, leg pain, cold hands and feet, abnormal skin colour, a rash or bruising on the skin, nausea, headaches and a stiff neck.
Councillor charged for unauthorised dental work
A Bexley man was charged for performing unauthorised dental work at aged care facilities in Leichhardt and Haberfield. Dentist and Liberal councillor of the Hurstville City Council, Andrew Istephan, was charged with ten counts of intent to cause grievous bodily harm to elderly patients in Sydney’s inner west. Strike Force Staham, operated by Leichhardt Local Area Command, was established late last year after complaints were received about the alleged dental assessments. Mr Istephan has been granted a conditional bail and is scheduled to appear at the Dowing Centre Local Court on March 13.
