Rally for rights

About 3000 people gathered at Town Hall on Saturday to rally for same-sex marriage. They joined thousands of Australians across the country demonstrating on the six-year anniversary of the Howard Government’s change to the Marriage Act making it explicitly between a man and a woman.

GetUp! should “bugger off”

Paddington Town Hall played host to the GetUp! Wentworth candidates forum last Saturday for a discussion between Malcolm Turnbull (Lib), Steven Lewis (ALP), and Matthew Robertson (Greens).

The show was stolen by Independent candidate, Malcolm Duncan. Infuriated at his exclusion from the forum Mr Duncan heckled the event and dared organisers to eject him.

“You wouldn’t bloody well let me speak would you, you bastard?” Mr Duncan yelled at convenor Oliver Maccoll during his closing address. Adding, “GetUp! should bugger off.”

Sydney cools to warming

About 10,000 people marched through the city on Sunday at the annual Walk Against Warming rally to protest government complacency on the issue of human induced climate change. Turnout was far lower than the anticipated 30,000.

Taxi drags cyclist 20 metres

A cyclist is in a critical condition after being hit by a taxi on Elizabeth Street, north of Liverpool Street, Sunday morning. The 53-year-old Drummoyne man was dragged under the taxi about 20 metres, and was rescued using a car jack. He suffered a shattered pelvis, dislocated hip and internal injuries.
