Bikie may hold clues to Ploy death

Detectives are renewing the investigation into the death of 25-year-old Katrina Ploy, whose body was found near Lady Bay Beach in Sydney Harbour on Christmas Day 2006. They say a bikie gang member might have vital information concerning the circumstances of her death. Detectives now believe she may have visited a tattoo parlour on the Great Western Highway before her death. She was last seen by her parents on December 17, the day police believe she died. Clothing belonging to Ms Ploy was found at The Gap at Watsons Bay the next day.

Message in a bottle

A 18-metre catamaran made of 12,500 used plastic bottles arrived in Sydney Harbour on Monday, having sailed from San Fransisco. Voyage leader David de Rothschild is campaigning for reduction of garbage in the ocean, and will speak at the University of Sydney tonight. The Plastiki will moor outside the Maritime Museum for a month.

Drive-by shooting, Glebe

A drive-by shooting on a family home on Bridge Road, Glebe, about 12:40 Monday is believed to be the result of an argument between two girls, say Police. Several shots were fired into the front of a home from what witnesses describe as a white four-wheel drive. The six occupants were unharmed.

Attempted ATM skimming, Newtown

Police arrested a 27-year-old man in Newtown with an ATM skimming device late last week. After a report by a passer-by, Police saw two men acting suspiciously near an ATM in a financial institution on King Street. One man evaded capture.

Secret marina, Elizabeth Bay

State MP for Sydney Clover Moore says NSW Maritime confidentially approved a Development Application for a marina at Elizabeth Bay. She says the Minister for Planning hasn’t yet responded to her request that Council or the Central Sydney Planning committee (both of which she is a voting member).

Dam noise

The Wilderness Society used a truck mounted public address system last week to respond to Minister for Water, Phil Costa’s claim that he knew of no evidence as to why the State Government should not build the Tillegra dam, near Newcastle. The Society said the dam would be as big as Sydney Harbour and would be an “economic, environmental and social disaster”.
