Sydney St Patrick’s Day Parade and Family Day cancelled

Due to heavy rainfall and continuing poor weather conditions, Sunday’s Sydney St Patrick’s Day Parade and Family Day were cancelled.

The Parade was due to commence at midday and festivities in Hyde Park had been planned from 12.30pm to 6.30pm, but both were called off due to health and safety issues arising from the heavy rainfall overnight.

President of the Sydney St Patrick’s Day Parade and Family Day, Gerard Ryan said: “We are extremely disappointed that today’s event had to be cancelled. The entire Irish community in Sydney has put in a lot of time, effort and fundraising to make today’s Parade and Family Day one of the biggest and best parades in the world.

“Due to the rainfall it was not safe to use the electrical equipment and the Family Day area of Hyde Park is water-logged and we were advised by the City of Sydney that the event could not go ahead, thus our decision to cancel.”
