Defence Force honors reconciliation

Indigenous contribution in the Australian Defence Force was commemorated at Hyde Park’s Anzac Memorial on Friday. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Veterans joined Governor of NSW Marie Bashir and representatives of the RSL and Federal and State Governments in the Reconciliation Week event, held in each capital city for the fourth time.


Lord Mayor won’t step down from Barangaroo board

Lord Mayor Clover Moore refused to step down as City Council representative on the Barangaroo on Monday board despite requests by Greens and Liberal Councillors who said it was a conflict of interest. The Councillors say Cr Moore is unable to inform Council on proceedings due to confidentiality. Cr Moore said it was important to ensure the City’s interests are represented, and she will step down if and when she deems beneficial.


BMW stolen at gunpoint

A 31-year-old man was car-jacked at gunpoint on Elizabeth Street last Wednesday night, say police. As the man was getting something from the boot of his BMW M5, two men in balaclavas got out of a silver BMW. The men allegedly produced a gun and demanded the keys to his $100 000 car.


Council to State: ‘Hands off Moore Park’

Council will petition the NSW Minister for Sport and Recreation Kevin Greene to prevent the transfer of Moore Park to the Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust. An urgent letter will request “that any such proposal be subject to comprehensive public consultation” and for an increase in direct funding for the park to reduce reliance on income from car parking and holding commercial events, which Council said damage the grounds.


Cycleways go green

The City’s cycleways will be painted green, decided Council on Monday. Councillors hope the change will raise driver awareness and cyclist safety.
