Newtown Slaying
Police are investigating the suspicious death of a man, believed to have been shot, in Sydney’s inner west last night.
Police responded to reports of a man lying on the ground in Newtown’s Albermarle Street at approximately 9pm on Saturday night.
Upon examination it was revealed the man was deceased with a significant head injury, which is believed to be a gunshot wound.
The man has not yet been identified.
Detectives from Newtown Local Area Command are working with the Homicide Squad to investigate the incident.
City stabbing
Police have released images and are appealing for information after a man was stabbed in an altercation in Sydney earlier this week.
About 4.40am on Monday November 8 two men were involved in an argument in a poker machine area of a bar in George Street.
One of the men, a 27-year-old Canterbury was hospitalised with a stab wound to the left side of his chest and another which severed his left bicep.
He was treated at the scene by Paramedics before being taken to St Vincent’s Hospital where he underwent surgery. He currently remains in hospital. Medical experts have told police the man was lucky to be alive after suffering the injuries.
The second man fled the scene before the arrival of emergency services. He was last seen running south on Sussex Street towards Goulburn Street.
Police would like to speak to a man who may be able to assist with their inquiries. He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged between 40 and 45, about 180cm tall with a medium build and reddish-coloured curly hair. At the time of the incident he was wearing reading glasses, light-coloured trousers, a dark long-sleeved jumper and running shoes.
