Stabbing in Glebe

Leichardt Police arrested a 47-year-old man for allegedly stabbing a teenager during a neighbourhood noise dispute at Glebe. Police were called to Bay Street in Glebe just before 5.30am on Saturday and discovered an 18-year-old man suffering a stab wound to his upper left leg.

He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance Paramedics before being transported to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. A 47-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Newtown Police Station, where he is continuing to assist police with their inquiries.

Investigators are examining reports the man stabbed the teenager with a wooden stake during a physical altercation that erupted after he confronted him about a noisy party in the street.

Taylor Square demolition derby

Revellers were treated to an unexpected demolition derby on Friday night in Darlinghurst. Witnesses say two men stole a cab outside the Oxford Hotel on Oxford street sometime before 11:20pm before driving it into another cab. The men then drove the taxi into a smart pole before leaving the scene on foot.

Cockatoo Cull back on the agenda

The National Parks and Wildlife Service are considering the resumption of their controversial culling of cockatoos in and around Broadway.

The cull is in response to reports the birds have been damaging buildings in and around Broadway.

“It’s unthinkable that the NPWS could issue a licence for what is such a cruel and obviously ineffective solution.” Greens Councillor Irene Doutney said.

“Two birds have been killed and another has moved in. Once this one is dead what’s to stop more cockatoos coming along? Will they just kill all of them as well?”

Plibersek’s baby

Tanya Plibersek, federal member for Sydney and her husband Michael Coutts-Trotter celebrated the birth of their third child, Louis. Ms Plibersek will take leave from her duties for three weeks and is expected to return at the end of October.

Breakfast on the bridge

Sydney Harbour Bridge played host to another year’s “Breakfast on the Bridge”. The event is part of the Crave Food Festival which runs from the first until the 31st of October and saw traffic across the bridge stopped as six-thousand people enjoyed breakfast looking into Sydney Harbour.

The event ran for the second time this year and participants were drawn from a computerised ballot.
