This week I’ve been dining on almonds, ogling a new opening by one of Sydney’s favourite chefs, and finding an innovative supper spot to round out a busy evening on the town…

Newly Opened

Chiswick: (Woollahra) With grey English styled weather darkening our skies, this new Woollahra entry is just the ticket to enjoy great food, and the great outdoors, without getting wet. Surrounded by the green ambience of Chiswick Gardens, the former Pruniers site has been updated with a 150 square metre kitchen garden. Local produce will feature heavily in the new space owned by Matt Moran and Peter Sullivan. On the menu you can expect to see crisp salads complimenting Moran family grass fed beef and lamb, raised in Rockley (just south of Bathurst). www.chiswicksydney.com.au

Dining Offers

Caffe Sicilia: (Surry Hills)  This month I celebrated Siciliy’s almond harvest with a three course dinner ($55/head) at Caffe Sicilia. The menu, which is available for the rest of the month, includes a choice of two options for every course. You’re sure to appreciate the simplicity of the king prawn salad Trapanese with basil, tomato and almond knife cut pesto. The intriguing almond praline snapper fillet kept my fork straying to my dining companion’s plate. Who knew the humble almond could perform so many jobs? Of course I took the opportunity to explore a few more flavours of granita from their Carpigiani Maestro machine (the first one to be brought to Australia). The creamy (and dairy-free) pistachio remains my favourite, though the almond granita (offered with this menu) provides it with some stiff competition.

Bistro Bruno: (Balmain)
If your life’s anything like mine, sometimes events take precedence over making time for a proper dinner. Rather than going home a bit hungry (after all a woman cannot live on canapés alone), pop in here after 9pm to Sip’n’Sup. Buy a glass of wine, like the Collestefano Verdicchio di Matelica 2010 ($19/glass) and the kitchen will send out a matching casual bite, like tasty potted prawns with dill and lemon. Sounds like the perfect way to wrap up a crazy busy day, if you ask me. And, if you get in fast, Erez has another 4-course I Love Duck & Pinot dinner ($95/head) on offer for Wednesday 11th April too. His last duck dinner sold out very quickly…
