New arrest over Leichhardt murder

New arrest over Leichhardt murder

A 20-year-old Croydon man is the second person to be charged with the murder of Malaysian Consulate worker Mohd Shah Saemin in February this year.

University student Andrew Iskandar appeared via video link at Parramatta Bail Court on May 22, following his extradition from Singapore.

He did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody.

Mr Saemin, 43, was attacked by two men outside his house in Marion Street, Leichhardt, just before midnight on February 21 this year. It is alleged the men stabbed him several times and struck Mr Saemin over the head with a hammer.

Andrew Iskandar’s father, Hazairin Iskandar, 55, was arrested by police and charged with murder three days after the attack. Hazairin Iskandar’s wife, Nita, 46, was also charged with accessory after the fact to murder, and hindering a police investigation. Reports noted Mr Saemin worked at the Malaysian Consulate with Ms Iskandar, who was described as his lover.

Andrew Iskandar is due to appear before Central Local Court on July 13.
