MOVIE: THE TOPP TWINS

MOVIE: THE TOPP TWINS

To begin, a confession: I am completely in love with the Topp twins, which is not something I ever thought I’d say about two middle aged, yodelling, lesbian, country music singing, comedic political activists from New Zealand. The Topp Twins: Untouchable Girls chronicles the lives of Jools and Lynda Topp from their dairy farm upbringing, through their days of busking, protest marches and world tours, right up to Jools’ recent brush with breast cancer. Using archival footage, rare home videos, live performances and interviews (including some of the Topp’s comedy alter-egos), director Leanne Pooley tells a story that is at times hilarious, heart wrenching, poignant and inspirational. Not to be missed, these girls make Flight of the Concords look like lightweights. (ABr)
