MOVIE: SPLICE

When two superstar scientists, famous for splicing various DNA to create new hybrids decide to push the boundaries, they end up going too far. By secretly splicing human DNA, the pair creates ‘Dren’, a human/animal hybrid who is able to transform from a baby to an adult in a matter of months. Surprisingly Splice doesn’t follow the instant horror thriller fare one would expect. Instead the film explores the impact that Dren has on the scientific couple as they struggle to keep their creation hidden; at times delving into areas of psychology which is a welcome change to proceedings. With solid performances and a well thought out concept, Splice certainly manages to become one interesting cinema experience. (AG)
