MOVIE: MY FRIENDS, MY LOVES

For reasons no-one quite understands, modern romantic comedies quite often now involve two non-gay men, the so-called “bromance”. In this case French bookseller Mathias (Vincent Lindon) moves to London and for under-explained reasons decides to shack up with his divorced pal Antoine (Pascal Elbé), a prissy architect. Each brings a cute kid to the blended, double daddied family, and there is confusion about roles, house rules, ribald amusement at school and some more serious misunderstandings about a girlfriend (the gorgeous Virginie Ledoyen). Lorraine Levy has made an “odd couple” comedy as tepid as it sounds, though one lively moment has a neighbour, a grandmotherly type, light up a spliff. She expires shortly after, possibly from boredom. (RE)
