MOONRISE KINGDOM
Moonrise Kingdom – the young persons guide to love – is another awkwardly-awesome film by Wes Anderson. Twelve-year-olds Sam (Jared Gilman), an orphaned Scout also known as “beige lunatic”, and Suzy (Kara Hayward) – a troubled child who loves magical stories – fall in love and make a pact to run away into the wilderness to create their own universe. Their disappearance sparks a rescue mission of heroic proportions and turns the small, island town upside-down. This comedy/drama/romance is reminiscent of childhood days where everything is a big deal and anything is possible. Because of these themes it’s wonderful, whimsical, and weird and will pull on the heartstrings of anyone who said, “I want to go on adventures and not be stuck in one place.” ****
