‘Misanthropology’ a success

‘Misanthropology’ a success

A self-confessed control freak, Eddie Perfect has certainly kept busy preparing his show, ‘Misanthropology’ for Sydney Festival.

After working intensively on the show for 6 months, its premiere at Sydney Festival certainly didn’t fall short of expectations.

Perfect, who wrote the entire show, from the songs, to the hilarious stand-ups, he has been kept busy.

The show gave the audience an insight into human life, to look amusingly at how we have evolved into the people we are.

“[Misanthropology] is a combination of two things,” Perfect said.

“I find the study of humans and the way we evolve, the way we react, and the way we behave culturally all over the globe really interesting.”

“The show also combines the idea of someone who dislikes people intensely.”

Perfect spoke of how terrifying it is to put a show together without knowing whether audiences will find it humorous and ultimately entertaining.

“The greatest challenge is always the material,” he said.

“If you haven’t got good material, and good ideas, then there is no show.

“Success stems from having funny and interesting songs.”

He said the ultimate reward is when other people find his work funny.

“Ultimately it is really rewarding when you think something is funny in the privacy of your own living room, to then when you’re writing, it becomes funny for real-life people,” Perfect said.

“Then you know you’re not crazy.”

Misanthropology’s success at Sydney Festival will put him in good stead for his next conquest- the Melbourne Comedy Festival.

“The idea is that I’ll perform it at the Melbourne Comedy Festival later on in the year and then maybe some other festivals, nothing concrete yet.” he said.

For the time being, Perfect is back to Melbourne to continue his role in Channel TEN’s show, Offspring.
