MID-WINTER RECITAL

MID-WINTER RECITAL

Fine classical sounds, up-and-coming performers, internationally renowned musicians and more are set to serenade Sydney this chilly season at the lovely Paddington Uniting Church on July 29. Concert pianist Ambre Hammond and tenor Brad Cooper are joining forces to premiere Peter Urquhart’s Songs of Renewal, while Dale Tuckey will take to his soprano saxophone for the composer’s Memories of a Friend.  Classical guitarist Silvina Strano (who has also performed for HMH Queen Elizabeth II!) will put some lively spice into the night alongside vocalist Brad Cooper. It’s a fusion of music and creative collaboration that also adds some much-need warmth to the 2MBS FM coffers – Australia’s first stereo FM radio station, operating continuously from 1975 with its selection of classical and jazz compositions. Very fine, indeed. (AB)
