MEOW MEOW

MEOW MEOW

The British cat is back in Sydney with her unique brand of kamikaze cabaret and performance art exotica.

Interviewing the larger than life Meow Meow, winner of the 2012 Helpmann award for best cabaret performer, is a hilariously enjoyable experience.

She answers the phone with a lively, “Hi darling it’s Meow!” before going on to describe her outfit, “I’m a symphony of fur and sparkles,” and the London dinner party she had just departed from.

Any interaction with Meow, whether over the phone or in concert, is sure to be wildly entertaining as the self-proclaimed diva who is, “beyond” the modern resurgence of the cabaret movement can’t help but charm and thrill.

“I’m always trying to stimulate as many of the senses as I can in a performance. I want people to be wowed, energised, agitated, thrilled,” she says.

“And this is a big old singing-my-head-off concert. You can’t take the show out of this girl. I just can’t do things half-heartedly.”

Meow Meow is aware she can’t dictate how an audience will feel, but says, “What I can do is give all my heart through a performance, really put my heart out – and hopefully not put my back out! But we aim to please!”
