MEGASTICK FANFARE – GRIT AGLOW

MEGASTICK FANFARE – GRIT AGLOW

Megastick Fanfare are a Sydney five piece and Grit Aglow is their debut album, one which has been in the works for many a year. While it seems easy to describe Megastick Fanfare as “electo”, htis doesn’t do them full justice. Sure there is quite obviously a heavy use of sampling and looping going on as well as a heavy use of effects, but the sounds you are hearing are made by traditional pop/rock instruments. In 2011, this is how music should sound. Surely by now we are over blips and beeps or “computer” or synthesizer sounds, and just because one plays the instruments doesn’t mean this technology at our disposal now should be shunned, rather it should be embraced and used with a new found maturity. Think Beck  or  Eels. The structure of the tracks could here be described as a kin to something like a Chemical Brothers. These tracks aren’t really “songs” as such but do have recurring vocal riffs throughout. While the lack of song structure can alienate at first, the thread and feel of each track keeps you coming back, revealing themselves a further over time. A truly inspiring recording.
