Maritime Museum collaborates with Sydney Harbour Kayaks for new tourist attraction

Tourists and even residents of Sydney who want to see the city in a new way, thanks to the collaboration between the Australian National Maritime Museum and Sydney Harbour Kayaks.

In this new and thrilling way to explore the harbour, residents and visitors will be able to pick a tour and paddle their way around some of Sydney’s well-known and historic wharves and waterscapes.

Tours include the Sunrise Tour, which will allow you to witness the harbour waking up and take in the sights of Sydney at the first light of dawn. Along with touring hidden areas such as Cockle Bay, Luna Park and the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Thanks to the collaboration with the Maritime Museum, tourists will be able to paddle across its impressive heritage fleet. These historic vessels include the HMAS Vampire, HMAS Onslow and some tall ships, the replicas of Endeavour, James Craig and the Duyfken – heralded as one of the rarest replica ships in the world.

Excitement For Collaboration

Head of Programs at the Australian National Maritime Museum, Bill Harris spoke to City Hub about his excitement for the kayak tours.

“The museum is thrilled to be able to offer this special on-water experience. It’s not every day you can paddle past a seal, alongside one of the world’s rarest replica 16th-century vessels!” he said.

“Sydney Harbour Kayak tours open up some of the hidden corners of Darling Harbour and offer the chance to experience the museum and our harbour city from a totally fresh perspective.”

Managing Director of Sydney Harbor Kayaks, Shannon O’Brien also expressed her delight at the collaboration with the museum.

“Sydney Harbour Kayaks is delighted for the opportunity to bring our tours program to this stunning part of the harbour, where a kayak gives a truly unique perspective,” she said.

“There’s so much to see – from the Museum’s heritage fleet, to Sydney’s iconic Opera House and Harbour Bridge, to a friendly seal swimming up close.”

“Our Darling Harbour kayak experiences have something for everyone!”

The tours will be located onsite at the Maritime Museum with the tours suitable for children aged ten and up.
