Man jumps in front of train

Trains between Martin Place and Bondi Junction were stopped for several hours on Friday night after a man threw himself under a City-bound train at Kings Cross Station.

Kings Cross Police said CCTV showed the man sitting on a bench on Platform 1 at 8.30pm. As a train approached from Bondi Junction, he stood up and jumped onto the tracks.

He was 34 and came from Bar Beach, an upmarket suburb of Newcastle. He received significant injuries to his head and feet but survived, and surgeons at St Vincents Hospital said they expected he would lose both feet.

The incident was attended by Ambulance, Police, Police Rescue and Railway incident teams. The line was re-opened at 10.55pm.
