Man charged with ranger assault

A man has been charged in conjunction with a serious assault on a council ranger in Darlinghurst last Thursday.

According to Police, the incident occurred around 11.45am. The ranger was inspecting a red Holden Barina on Crown Street, when he was approached by a man and sustained a punch to the face.

The alleged offender then dragged and wrestled the 42-year-old ranger into the middle of the roadway, before biting him on the cheek.

He is then alleged to have thrown the victim onto a parked vehicle, before leaving the scene and entering a nearby premises.

The injured ranger was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital, where he was treated for a deep facial laceration and a fractured forearm. He underwent surgery for a broken leg over the weekend.

Police from Kings Cross Local Area Command arrested a 29-year-old man at the premises a short time later. He was charged with wounding causing grievous bodily harm and reckless wounding with intent.

The suspect, from Marrickville, was refused bail and appeared at the Central Local Court last Friday.

A spokesperson for the City of Sydney said their first priority was for the wellbeing of the ranger. The City described the attack as “deeply distressing and concerning, as rangers are working men and women who are just trying to do their job.”

The City is undertaking its own investigations into the attack.

Inquiries into the case continue.
