Man Arrested After Holding Knife To Shopper’s Head At Westfield Parramatta

A man has been arrested after allegedly brandishing a knife at Westfield Parramatta and threatening a shopper. 

Lachlan Ebejer entered Parramatta Westfield at around 9:30 on Saturday morning when he allegedly stole from a store.

Ebejer, aged in his 20s entered another store and allegedly armed himself with a knife before brandishing it behind a customer’s head.

According to reports, Ebejer attempted to assault police officers during their effort to arrest him. During the search that followed, officers found and confiscated 69 gift cards and a pair of earrings, which were suspected to be stolen.

The man was taken to Parramatta Police Station where he was charged with shoplifting, goods in custody, using a knife in a public place – causing a person to fear for safety, and intimidating a police officer in the execution of duty.

He appeared in Parramatta Local Court on Sunday, where bail was denied. 

Recent arrest For Disturbing Incident In Sydney’s CBD 

According to police documents, he had recently made disturbing headlines for urinating on food at another shopping centre in Sydney’s CBD

Last month, Ebejer was arrested and charged following an incident inside the supermarket on the corner of George and Park streets.  Court documents found that Ebejer walked into the store and urinated on products, resulting in more than $311 worth of damage to various meat products. 

Publicly released footage from the incident shows Ebejer adjusting his drawstring pants as he exited the store via the escalator shortly before midnight. 

Ebejer was taken into custody on July 14 after these images were released. He faces charges including contaminating goods with intent to cause public alarm, as well as additional charges related to offensive conduct and trespassing.

His solicitor, Liam McKibbin, entered guilty pleas to one count of contaminating goods with intent to cause public alarm and one count of trespass. McKibbin informed the court that he plans to apply for Ebejer to be released into the care of a responsible person on mental health grounds.

Ebejer is expected to appear at the Downing Centre Local Court on August 30 for sentence over the urination incident in Woolworths.

He will now remain in custody until he is sentenced.
