Mallard announces election team

Liberal councillor and mayoral candidate Shayne Mallard has named his team for the September council elections.

Mallard heads the group of nine local residents and business owners, who were named on his campaign website (www.sydneyliberals.org.au). They include Giovanni Frischman of Glebe, financial adviser Jeff Koid, Adrian Bartels of Kings Cross, Glenn Phillips of Newtown, Pyrmont’s David Evans, mortgage broker Georgina Anderson, fashion director Rebecca Lau and former state Liberal candidate Edward Mandla.

Mallard pointed to their combined experience as a major strength: ‘We have a dynamic and energetic group of people standing for council,’ he said. ‘We have a balance of age and experience representing the diversity of the residents of the City of Sydney.’

Mallard is critical of the current Lord Mayor’s administration, pointing to what he sees as the ‘unsustainable financial direction’ of Clover Moore’s tenure.

‘Clover Moore’s big spending council has endorsed the Sydney 2030 strategy, estimated to cost $20 billion, without a single business case or financial report presented to the public.

‘Clover Moore’s council is burning through $180,000 a day more than it gets in ratepayer revenue.’

By launching their campaign among the luxury cars on William Street, the Sydney Liberals hoped to make the point that the current administration’s spending was unsustainable.

‘With growing economic uncertainty, Sydney can no longer afford this big spending Lord Mayor and her unquestioning councilors,’ Mallard said.

‘The City Council should budget to live within its means, just like the rest of us.’

‘My Liberal Action Team offers a real choice for voters. We will give the council accountability and balance on what could be the most financially undisciplined council in the history of Sydney.”

“The real choice is between our middle ground, mainstream team or a cluster of hard-line, big spending, left wing politicians.

The Liberals will be announcing policies on the issues of business confidence, law and order, and transportation in the coming weeks.
