MAJOR CHORD – PSYCHIC CIVIL WAR

MAJOR CHORD – PSYCHIC CIVIL WAR

Melbourne-based singer songwriter Dan Flynn has created an album that is truly special. It could nearly be described as a fifth note in a major chord – perfect. Psychic Civil War is capable of doing those  rare and special things that all music strives to acheive; to stir emotions, to conjure thoughts and dreams, and make you want to move physically.  It can make you smile or cause a tear to roll down your cheek. it will even have your hair stand on end and get goose bumps. Psychic Civil War is an acoustic recording with a similar feel and tempo to something Swede Jose Gonzales would produce, however Major Chord has a little more accompaniment with strings and some percussion.  The use of overdubbed vocals allows Flynn to harmonise with itself, adding a smooth and strong layer to the sound. With a less modern music base surrounding it, Dan Flynn’s voice could be compared to Pete Murray’s earthy natural tone but with more range. With the sounds of Gotye gaining wider acceptance, it’s hopeful that the listening masses are ready for some change. Hopefully someone like Dan Flynn and his Major Chord’s Psychic Civil War album are beneficiaries.
