Main Drag lights up Golden Mile

Sydney’s Oxford street will be buzzing in the lead up to Mardi Gras, with The Main Drag heading to the golden mile this Saturday.

Everything from Drag performances to a pop-up yoga garden will be present on the day for crowds to enjoy.

Lord Mayor Clover Moore MP said: “Oxford Street is one of Sydney’s most loved streets, and it really comes to life during Mardi Gras, attracting tens of thousands of tourists from all corners of the globe.”

“This year The Main Drag will give residents, workers and visitors even more reason to explore the street.”

The Main Drag is produced by the City of Sydney in partnership with the 2010 Business Partnership, Sydney Gay and Lesbian Business Association and New Mardi Gras.

Taylor Square will see dynamic drag duo Stephen Carrington and Stephanie Q, performing a Cabaret a la Retro show at noon.
Crowds can also catch Zumba lessons at 1.30pm, a Rio Carnivale production at 2.30pm and mFIT cardio demonstrations by City Gym from 3.30pm.

Celebrity Drag Queen Maxi Shield will also judge the best Wizard of Oz costume, live on stage from 2.10pm.

New Mardi Gras CEO Michael Rolik said: “Many of us remember a time when Oxford Street was spilling over with colour, anticipation and of course, fabulous drag during Mardi Gras weekend.”

“We are happy to join forces with the City of Sydney for The Main Drag to help bring that magic back to Oxford Street and the shops that line her, so people can take in the atmosphere and excitement that comes with this amazing time of year.”

Oxford Square will be transformed into a relaxation hub, with free massages, yoga classes by Finding Lotus Yoga and deckchairs for all.

The weekly Sydney Sustainable Markets will also be selling a selection of fresh produce from 8am – 1pm.
