Locals fight against homophobia

A group of locals gathered in protest on King Street in Newtown last week to commemorate the Internatonal Day Against Homophobia.
Protesters chose to wave placards outside of Gloria Jeans cafe because of its open support for Hillsong Church, which has been widely criticised for its position against homosexuality.
The International Day Against Homophobia was selected to celebrate the day the World Health Organisation removed homosexuality from its list of mental illnesses on May 17 in 1990.
