Living in a sensory world

Living in a sensory world

“I guess we all take our lives for granted. I was born with sight so it was a very daunting experience when I started losing it. It’s still challenging just now. Some things I could do a couple of year’s ago which I struggle to do now.” As each day goes by, Paralympian cyclist Lindy Hou is forever coming to grips with being legally blind.

Living in a sensory world: stories from people with blindness and low vision is a new exhibition the Powerhouse Museum is presenting with Vision Australia, which explores this community’s world and celebrates their achievements. From the ball from Australia’s first Blind Cricket game, to a 1794 copy of a Braille Playboy, the exhibition highlights a culture of triumph and intrigue.

Until February 2010, Powerhouse Museum, 500 Harris Street, Ultimo, Sydney (02) 9217 0111 or infoline (02) 9217 0444 www.powerhousemuseum.com/living
