Kingfisha: Brisbane six-piece reggae crew Kingfisha are heading south to play some heavy drops cloaked with simmering dubs and silky soulful vocals for our listening pleasure. The crew has been popular on the national and New Zealand festival circuit for some years now and though their self-titled debut record was only released earlier this year it’s a testament to how much great reggae music Australia is capable of producing.

Jahdan Blaakamore: Brooklyn dancehall/dubstep/hip-hop heavyweight Jahdan Blaakamore will be passing through Sydney to give us a taste of why he’s received i-Tunes Best Reggae Album of the year (both solo and with his crew Noble Society) and why he’s guest featured on records for Diplo, Matisyahu and Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry amongst others. Blaakamore is king of the dance-floor crossover so expect to hear plenty of bass heavy riddims alongside his trademark lyrical flow on the night.

Aston Shuffle: The Canberra electronic house duo return with the new single Can’t Stop Now; a hint of what’s to come from their upcoming album. Just a mere 18 months ago they released their debut Seventeen Past Midnight to rapturous reviews and an inclusion in Rolling Stone Australia’s top five albums of 2011. The group has been in hibernation recently working furiously on their second record so expect them to be super pumped for this single launch.

Husky: Melbourne indie-folk quartet Husky are capping off a splendid 2012 by embarking on a national tour to celebrate their exceptionally well received debut Forever So. The boys have been on tour in the US and Europe following their addition to seminal grunge label Sub Pop – the same label that broke Nirvana and Soundgarden and now houses the Shins – yet they’re adamant that there’s no greater pleasure than playing back home so this one is sure to be bliss.

The World According To James & Briana Cowlishaw: This event will feature two amazing jazz ensembles. Firstly, that of Briana Cowlishaw, who was nominated for the Best Jazz Vocal Album for the 2012 Jazz Bell Awards and, only freshly back from New York, will be performing material from her recent album When Fiction Comes To Life as well as new material she composed while in NYC. Afterwards, there’ll be a set by Australia’s most accomplished trombonist James Greening and his quartet as they take a journey through all styles and periods of jazz. A feat to behold if ever anyone was bold enough to take it up!
