LIVE WIRE – Sydney Live Music Guide November 8th

Jess Dunbar: Local singer/songwriter Jess Dunbar is launching her debut EP Fools March which is a beautifully crafted collection of indie-folk songs featuring her flighty vocals and sophisticated lyrics over cleverly arranged guitars, strings and a very tidy rhythm section. A young talent to keep an eye out for.

Thur, Nov 8th, Vanguard

Thundamentals: The hip-hop boys from the Blue Mountains are having a massive 2012 after the rise and rise of their sophomore album Foreverlution. Released in late 2011 it’s been slowly but surely reaching the masses for its ingenuity and conviction along with an overwhelmingly positive response to their Triple J ‘Like A Version’ performance that has had somewhere in the area of a quarter of a million hits.

Fri, Nov 9th, Oxford Art Factory

Seun Kuti: The youngest son of Nigerian activist and afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti has inherited his father’s band, Egypt 80, and will be performing some of the revolutionary music of his late father along with material from his latest record From Africa With Fury: Rise. Seun became the lead singer of Egypt 80 at the age of 14 after his father passed away from AIDS in 1997 and the group is still comprised of members that were arrested and harassed along with Fela during the height of their activism.

Sat, Nov 10th, Metro Theatre

Fat Freddy’s Drop: The New Zealand collective are no strangers to our shores, nor have they ever struggled for fans on our side of the Tasman. The roots reggae and soul act has consistently wowed audiences with their exceptional live shows and frontman Dallas Tamaira’s charismatic presence and knack for feelgood lyrics. If you can’t get down to their track Do it for the Love of Music then you just don’t know how to get down.

Sat, Nov 10th, Sydney Opera House

Wolf & Cub: The psychedelic rock group from Adelaide probably know more drummer jokes than any other band out there because they’ve got not one but two skin hitters. That makes for one pumping rhythm though and once you throw in some heavily fuzzed guitar work along with Joel Byrne’s unforgiving vocal delivery you’ve got one mammoth live act. After taking a breather after some heavy touring for a couple of years, the band returns with the release of two EPs that sees them pick up where they left off.

Wed, Nov 14th, Beach Rd Hotel
