LIVE WIRE – Sydney Live Music Guide March 31st

Thursday 31st sees enigmatic concept rapper MF Doom play a second Sydney show at OAF due to popular demand – a rare must-see for all the hip hop heads out there. Live music champions The Mac are bringing back their hugely popular late night Thursday sets, with Brasilian outfit Samba Mundi playing this week from midnight – great hang! 70s rockers Uriah Heep are in Australia for the first time in twenty five years, they play The Enmore Theatre in Sydney’s Inner West as part of their 40th anniversary tour (for better or worse). Friday 1st finds latin rockers Watussi fresh from their national Santana supports and still on their east coast tour, with a performance at Baroque Bar in Katoomba, Blue Mountains before their Saturday night set at Bondi’s Beach Rd Hotel where they are backed up by Tijuana Cartel and Kween G (Killaqueenz). Saturday 2nd also features a showcase by the Modular label of some of their bright new talent signings, with Grace Woodroofe, WIM and Emma Davis gracing the stage at The Basement for an interesting and potentially amazing show. Also on Saturday, The Holidays are kicking off their national headline tour at OAF (they seem to have all the best gigs!) with Gold Fields in support. Sunday 3rd finds the OZ Soul Collective at Tone in Surry Hills, with Bella Kalolo (NZ), Dattyl Beaton & The D1 Cartel, NFA Jones (UK/AUS) and Cazeaux O.S.L.O. (LA) topping the massive bill – sure to be an excellent night! Still at Tone, Monday 5th has the Jazz Rooms Brazilian Funk Affair, with an 11-piece band playing 70s Brazilian classics, and Tuesday 5 finds seminal U.K. free improvisation group The A Band in Australia for the first time, with Forenzics, Violence in Action and Hinterlandt all playing support. Back at the Beach Road, Wednesday 6th has Sydney rockers Underlights headlining the weekly Wednesday Sideo Show there, with Numbers Radio and Meow Kapow in support. Sydney locals The Jezabels are mid-meteroric rise at the moment, and their sold out show at The Metro on Friday 8th is testament to that. Those lucky enough to have scored tickets will enjoy a performance by this electrifying band as well as Ernest Ellis and We Say Bamboulee. Also on Friday, U.S. pop rockers Jimmy Eat World are back in the country, performing at the Enmore Theatre on Enmore Rd in Sydney’s Inner West. The Factory Theatre in Marrickville has Aussie hip hop legend The Herd on Saturday 9th, as the group celebrate ten years since their first release. With TZU’s Joelistics in support, this is a must see for any hip hop fans.  Also on Saturday, The Vanguard in Newtown hosts local cabaret pop chanteuse Ava Torch as she and her band The Boybirds promise an innovative and rollicking show.
